Are you striving to create a better work-life balance? Are you on the hunt for ways to create a life and a business that you love?
Well, I’m here to tell you that I think work-life balance is bullshit.
Yep, you read that right.
I don’t think we should be striving for work-life balance.
Instead, I am all for work-life integration.
Why work-life balance is BS:
In reality, there’s no such thing as work-life balance because your work is a part of your life.
The events that happen in your personal life affect how you perform at work. A stressful home life is going to bleed into work.
All the same, the things that happen at work impact your home life.
This is especially true if you’re an entrepreneur and you own your business.
It’s impossible to prevent your work from impacting your life.
Adopting a new perspective:
It’s common in American culture to define ourselves based on our jobs.
When meeting new people at a networking event or a happy hour, one of the first things you’re usually asked is: “what do you do?”
Often times, people respond with statements such as “I am a banker.”
I think that’s an unhealthy way of thinking about our careers.
Rather than letting our jobs define us, I think it’s healthier to look at yourself as a human being that is currently working in banking.
I think the ultimate goal is to create a life that you love; that means finding ways to get paid to do work that you enjoy!
It’s not about putting in the hours at work so that you can escape to a life you enjoy.
It’s about finding a way to make your income doing things you’d be happy to do any day of the week!
What do you think? Do you agree that work-life balance is BS?
