You chart your day

Last week I had a bad day.

It was just one of those craptastic days where everything feels bad; your body, your outfit, your hair, your attitude…even your actions.

Throughout the day, my self-talk was negative.

I accomplished a task at work, only to tell myself I could have done better. I consoled a friend, only to tell myself I could have given better advice. I cancelled plans with a friend to grab drinks after work (because I was exhausted,) only to tell myself that I was being rude and flakey.

It was only at the end of the day that I was able to take a step back and reflect on just how self-destructive my attitude was.

I realized that my negative self-talk only served to feed my miserable mood.

What I took away from that day was the understanding that every day is filled with an endless amount of opportunities for something to go wrong.

A lot of the things that can turn our day to shit are beyond our control.

What’s not beyond our control is the way we choose to speak to ourselves; our self-talk.

Regardless of the shit that’s thrown your way, you chart your day with your own self-talk.

So, the next time you find yourself in a crappy mood, try being gentle with yourself.
