Why You Need To Visit Sanborn’s Sunflower Fields

If you live in Buffalo, you’ve heard about the Sanborn Sunflower Fields.

Every summer, Instagrammers flock to the spot to take photos.

However, you’ve gotta be smart when you go. Not only do the sunflower fields get muddy, but they’re only in bloom for a few short weeks.

When I visited on Saturday, August 18, 2018, the sunflowers were beautifully bloomed.

The weather was overcast (hint: go watch the vlog about why that’s beneficial) which was a blessing.

Sanborn’s Sunflowers:

Located just 35 minutes away from Buffalo, (on 3311 Saunders Settlement Road,) the Sunflower fields of Sanborn make for a great afternoon activity.

The flowers bloom for about three weeks in the summer, so it’s important to plan ahead when you’re going to make the trip.

It was fun to see so many people in the fields.¬†Couples, families, individuals just wandering around… there were so many people on the day that I visited.

While I saw everyone taking photos in the fields, I didn’t see many people taking video footage; that’s why I was thrilled to get to capture the experience via a vlog.

Not to mention, Sunflowers are my favorite flower!

It was really exciting for me to capture this place in a video because I didn’t want to forget the feeling of walking in these fields for the first time.

Seeing rows of sunflowers completely captivated me. It was such a beautiful sight.

Equally as beautiful: seeing so many couples taking photos together (and of each other) in the fields.

Wandering around the fields provided insight into what to wear and bring to make the most of my next visit to the Sanborn Sunflower fields.

The top two tips that I have for those planning a visit next summer are:

  • Wardrobe: If you’re going to the fields for photos, be smart about what you wear. Will something yellow look cute? Definitely, but keep in mind that it might get drowned out by the sunflowers. Does a dress look adorable? Obviously, but be mindful of wind. I wore a black and white polka dot dress, rain boots and a sun hat. The rain boots were the most critical item of the wardrobe because the fields were muddy. I definitely would not have had the confidence to trample in the middle of the fields if I wasn’t wearing those boots. Because I didn’t have to watch every step that I took, I was able to enjoy the experience a lot more.¬†Takeaway: Wear (or at least bring) boots.
  • Accessories: The sun hat completely made the photos. I know that my photos wouldn’t have turned out as cute without that accessory to hold and play around with to create different looks when taking photos. Not to mention, camera accessories were helpful! I brought my extra lens, as well as my vlogging tripod so that I could get different angles for photo and video content. Bringing accessories on a photo shoot is a smart way to leave with multiple looks for your photos.¬†Takeaway: Bring a hat, scarf or another accessory to change up the look of your outfit.

Planning ahead is smart whenever you’re executing a photo or video shoot because it allows you to capture all of the content that you want to make the project a success.

While I didn’t have a specific goal in mind for this vlog, I knew that I wanted to bring you along on an experience that made me smile.

I’m so happy that I got to visit the Sunflower Fields of Sanborn last summer, and am already excited to go back in 2019!
